Founder’s Note

From the moment my daughter Jaelani was born, my life changed — and so did my purpose. In 2003, I blended my horoscope sign with her name and unknowingly created a brand identity that would follow me for decades: Gemlani.

As a young mother in college, I didn’t have the time or resources to grow the jewelry line I dreamed of. But the vision never left me. It lived quietly in my heart, waiting for the right moment to bloom.

Growing up with Hyperhidrosis, jewelry was always complicated for me. My skin reacted to everything. My hands dripped sweat. Metals tarnished instantly. Kids called me “Sweat Palms,” and I often felt embarrassed and misunderstood.

But sterling silver — .925 — never failed me. It was the only metal my skin could tolerate, and the only jewelry my mother could afford. It made me feel beautiful when nothing else did.

Today, Gemlani is my way of honoring that journey. It’s a tribute to my family, my resilience, my culture, and every woman who deserves jewelry that loves her back.
